« Matt Damon and Men in Hats »

Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 8:20AM Just had a look at the trailer for The Adjustment Bureau, Matt Damon’s new film. I’m a big Matt Damon fan and I love his co-star, Emily Blunt, too so I’m looking forward to seeing this film in the big screen when it’s released in mid- September.
What I’m not carried away by is the bad publicity for men’s hats. In the trailer, the bad guys, the villains, the guys you have to fear are wearing guess what— dorky men’s hats. The message is— Men who wear hats are bad. Men who don’t are good. Bad message IMHO. Great gimmick for the plot, worst thing for the men’s hat biz since Jack Kennedy, especially if this turns out to be a blockbuster.
Take a look at the trailer and see what you think.

Oh wow. I've GOT to see this movie. You're right, the bad guys are wearing hats, and seems when Matt Damon wears one, he's in hiding so to speak. Interesting. I think this is definitely a subliminal message, even though it's obvious, people aren't going to correlate it on a conscious level if that makes sense. Good eye. ~Michelle
OMG I am not kidding about this--I OWN one of those dorky hats. I own only three hats: a ball cap, a floppy rain hat, and one of those men-who-run-the-world hats. I wear it too--I bought it on Ebay a few years back.
Are there women who make things happen? Maybe they forgot to invite me to the meetings???????
OMG. Seriously.
Note to self- "Get rid of dorky hats."
Thanks for the comments guys-- I'm thinking the subliminal message here is not too great for hats, but it just might be a fun flick to see and Pam-- time to put that hat in your next yard sale and get something wide brimmed and straw:-)
Baby boomers will connect the hats to the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover's reign there, when ALL agents were required to wear them. Hoover and his men had the reputation of being all-seeing and all-knowing, in a sense an "Adjustment Bureau". That, I think, is the subliminal message, not that ALL bad guys wear hats and good guys don't.
