Astrological Discussion Forum > 2012 Apocalyse

So I thought I'd jump in and be the first forum poster, Julie. I hope you don't mind.

Is it true this once-in-a-millennium astrological line-up everyone is babbling about on 12/21/12? I know you use a different system than the one used in the West.

What say you? Is a New Age about to dawn or are we toast?

Oh exciting topic Pam! What say you, Julie? What's the scoop?

I hadn't heard about this, so I'll be interested to read what everyone's take is on this.

The numbers of the date look like they would definitely mean something. Hmmm. Especially when it get to the year 2112! Then it would be 12/21/2112 or 21/12/2112 as they do (how they would write it) in other countries.

The numerology is definitely interesting. The date reduces to 3, and can also be broken up into three sets of 3. 3 + 3 + 3 +3 = 12 = 1 + 2 =3!

(And I'm NOT OCD--I just can't stop myself from reducing numbers and analyzing the numerology.)

So 3, 3, 3, 3, 12, 3.

Three is about creativity and art. 12 is a very humanitarian number and a spiritual number. Jesus had 12 apostles. There are 12 months in the calendar year. In numerological terms its more of a creative New-Age-sorta date. Not so apocalyptic. I'm looking forward to Julie's astrological analysis of it. :)

What I say is I believe the Mayans were hoping that we as a species would be in such an evolved state that we would indeed be ready for heaven on earth. Perhaps this is why their calendar didn't go any further than this date, they possibly thought we didn't have need for one. Not because we'd be gobbled up by fire, perhaps because they thought we may have no need for dates anymore! Not sure on whether you need dates and time keepers in the Fields of Peace, or Heaven, or whatever you want to call a transcended home for us humans.

The astrological placement is being called the Galactic Alignment or the Holy Cross. The explanation is a large one and perhaps between now and Dec 2012 it will be discussed further. This being said, the date 21/12/2012 is the date of the Solstice - Summer Solstice in the southern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Northern. The Sun will be at 5 degrees Sagittarius which is deemed the centre of the Milky Way, or Galaxy.

From a religious or spiritual perspective the solstice is an auspicious time for receiving the light of God. For the meditator this is a perfect time to light a candle and go inside. It's said to be a time where spiritual presences are more accessible and the chances of having high spiritual experiences greater. This particular solstice is more special than most because of this Galactic Alignment.

Interestingly, instead of doom and gloom, I see the opposite. It will be a time for great opportunities of change. Inner change as well as external change. Though of course you change yourself, the outside world changes also. Hopefully if done en mass then we could finally see a more humane world.

Thanks for this question Pam because you also made me go look at my transits for that day. Amazing and I will avail myself of what's on offer - perhaps I won't have a choice as it will happen regardless of whether I want it or not. But I do want it.

Have to say any child born on this day will be exceptional. Not only because of this Alignment, but the planetary aspects are very powerful.

20 Dec 2012 represents an extremely close conjunction of the Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun)

Julie, thanks for that explanation!

Anjalichugh at Hub Pages wrote a bit about it recently, or touched on it, and she said the same thing--that she thought it would be more of a good thing, a new beginning. Maybe by 2012 the rottenness at the top of the economy will have crashed the system and we all will be ready to start over on a saner track.

It would be nice to think that could happen. I hope it can happen.

Over at Dropoutnation we are in a bit of a heated discussion over whether change starts within or without. I say within, but CWB and Paraglider point out that if you don't have enough then you don't have the luxury of starting change within. Also, many people feel strongly that political action is needed to bring down the bad guys. The thing is, I don't see how that happens. And honestly, I do really, really think they are destroying themselves before our very eyes anyway.

Darn good discussion, within or without. Can we do that here? Oh lets please!

Okay, here's the start of my two cents. In fact if it were the type of thing people expected from me I'd be more than thrilled to write an article about it. You cannot ever destroy the bad guys. They will always be there. Get rid of one and another takes his place. The only satisfaction is a personal one, that comes of thinking one man down. In truth you are not ridding the world of a being, or a being's powers.

I'd advocate that change starts from within but perhaps some need a bit of nudging in order to change. It takes will though and speaking of Will, Chris Gardner as played by Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happiness had nothing but the incentive of his son and the gutter to turn his life around and become a success. Bear in mind that success does not necessarily mean capital wealth, but you get the idea.

At some level I agree political action is required because there is a major imbalance in ethical standards. But it's the average person who has to make a change and make a stand and ensure action is taken. It won't happen if you wait for someone else to do it.

This IS a good discussion!

I agree with Frieda that you never really get rid of the bad guys. Knock one down and there's another in line behind him. What strikes me is if I focus all my energy on the bad guys, I'm giving them my energy. Now I don't mean I can't write about and expose things I think are wrong, or vote my conscience, or anything else that seems right by my conscience, but when it comes to real change, the only person I can change is me.

I feel like taking the risk of leaving the bank and devoting myself to writing was a more powerful political act than signing a dozen petitions--even if I don't write about politics. It's a change because it's a move toward a creative life. If we all did that, just kept moving towards our authentic selves, then society would change organically, from the inside.

Everyone is looking outside themselves, but it's our insides that matter.

Not to go on and on (but I will!), but it also makes me think of my recovery work and the concept of codependence. When you become addicted to controlling another person or preventing their self-destructive behavior, that's called codependence in recovery lingo. Codependence actually enables the addict to continue in his or her addiction. The codependent partner feels very virtuous and feels like they are 'helping' but really they are just making the addict sicker while neglecting themselves.

So if we focus all our energy on trying to change society, it's sort of like we're codependent politically. Like we only exist to prevent this sick system from self-destructing. Really, we need to LET it self destruct, or at least 'hit bottom'. That's the healthier approach, I think.

Feels like we as a society have succumbed to codependence in a big way.

We've been feeding a terrible monster and perhaps it will take self destruction in order to no longer feed it.

Certainly the Alignment is going to create an impulse for allot of people to look at themselves.

Is really interesting when you go through any transformation work, firstly there is this great pull to blame everything externally for what ails you. (This is the current state of affairs as a society at large). Only after allot of reflection can you see it's your attitude and reactions to your experiences and circumstances that create your reality. So change your own circumstances and your reality can change also.

To the number 3 being significant. I'd like to add that from an astrological standpoint 3 (the trine) stands for creation. Creation therefore would seem the opposite of destruction. Esoterically speaking I wonder if this period of time was meant to be the creation of Heaven on Earth - the apocalypse as an internal struggle would be the transformation of the human being to a state where as a whole we could facilitate the Fields of Peace in our lives?
