But there’s something else that often gets overlooked. Sometimes all they need is a haircut. It’s as simple as that.
Out of the four children that I have, this has been true for every single one of them when there seems to be no other reason for their cranky behavior; especially when this cranky behavior seems to go on for days.
My girls never did well with barrettes, and unlike my doting mom, I’m a bit more natural, if you will, when it comes to the looks department. Inevitably, hair would just get in the way of things, and much like wearing a hat around all the time, things can get a bit gloomy under all that hair. This is true for boys as well, of course, especially in this day and age when wilder and longer hair for boys is popular.
I don’t remember how I figured this out, but I’m so glad I did. A good hair trim and a shower and all would be well again. Of course, this is one of those things that they don’t tell you they need because it’s not something you just know instinctively like “I’m hungry”. I can say, however, that if all else fails, take a look at your child’s hair. It just may be time for a haircut.
