« I am mom I am the eggman kookookachoo »

I woke up singing “I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, kookookachoo.”

It was one of those mornings.  You know, Saturday, children waking up early despite the fact that this is a no-school day, crying, laughing, fighting, playing, all at once, filling the house with crazyness, trying to sleep through the, “Mama, Mama, Mama”s.  I suppose you could say that I had been defeated and finally decided to join the Saturday morning craziness.  I felt a bit silly after an hour of wondering, “why me, why today?” with my eyes shut tight, my head pressed into any pillow I could find (restless morning of sleep as you may imagine).

Without thought, rhyme or reason, I belted out, “I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, kookookachoo.”

Anyone who thinks that they or their mood does not have direct effect on their children needs to think about this phenomena a bit deeper.   Our moods as mothers effect plenty.  We may think our moods don’t; at least not the little ones that pass throgh us day to day.  We may not want them to.  We may think of ourselves as insignificantly inflential in terms of mood.  But truth be told, we effect the world.

We’re all made of energy.  Water too (some of us contain more water than other’s but that’s another story, now isn’t it - a long one at that).  At any rate, while some energy transfers itself faster than other types, in many cases where our lives are concerned, resulting energy shifts do not happen right away.  Not most of the time anyway.  Think about it, can you change your outlook on the turn of a dime?  It is not always so easy.  It takes time to totally meld into a different mood. But at some point, it will and can change. We can transform energy just as we can be transformed by it.

Just like the straw that breaks the camel’s back, there is a straw that fixes it as well.  Yes, I’m an optomist, most of the time that is, but think about it.  This is something many of us don’t think about, especially not in the fast track world of today; our instant gratification selves expect the emotions of others to be instantly gratified by our own.  Our patience has, overall, dwindled where both of these sides are concerned.  We don’t stop to take into consideration the sciences of energy and time, the fluxuations and transitions, and all that scientific basics stuff.

We are energy.

Music is energy.

My singing this morning, alone, in the hallway, while everyone else was doing their own thing, talking, laughing, fighting, whatever, was heard the world over.  At the time, the world didn’t notice, not really, and neither did I.  But after a while, that spark of energy that I put out into the world,  that spark that had somehow found its way to me from days gone by, from that years ago legacy of energy first transformed by The Beatles into those few, small, rediculous words, made their way, finally, to four little people.

Low and behold, around noon today, long after I’d forgotten my own silliness, those four little people began singing…

“I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, kookookachoo!”

And all was right with the world.
