Guest Blogger Sherri Hubbell talks about the state of the world’s food supply and the long term harm being done by both corporations and governments to present as well as future generations. It is time for ” Occupy Food”

Early this year a research team in China published the results of a study showing that Genetically Modified foods carry strands of foreign ribonucleic acid (RNA) which may or may not be broken down in the human body. As RNA is a genetic information carrier, like DNA, human consumption of GM foods is adding bits of plant and animal information to our bodies which our internal processes are not necessarily capable of sorting out and making predictable sense of.
The Chinese researchers don’t predict the impact of their results, an action on the part of the team that, as far as I’m concerned, strikes a dire note: Now we know that RNA information carriers are there, but we have little information so far about how they affect our bodies.
At the time of this writing, Prince Charles is making global waves on the social front, irritating both government and big business, by publicizing the plight of farmers and their families in the wake of a rash of suicides blamed on the failure of GM cotton crops in India over the last two years.
Many cotton farmers in India paid a premium price for Genetically Modified seeds that were promised not only by seed sellers, but by the government to bring record harvests. The GM crops failed, farmers were thrown into inescapable debt, and many chose suicide.
We Americans, loving our fast foods and processed foods, consume an enormous amount of GM foods without knowing it. There is no law in this country that demands food producers declare the GM foods in their products.

In the first month of 2012, events in China and India are making global news regarding the unknown and suspected negative impact of Genetically Modified foods.. Yet, the roots of GM foods are political and economic. American big business, with the backing of American politics, propelled GM foods into the global environment. Americans are moving against GM foods. The movement is growing. Out of the Occupy movement has come Occupy Food and Occupy Monsanto and a score of other movements designed to fight agri-biz and government greed world-wide.
The time for action has come. Will you take a stand? First there was Occupy Wall Street. Now there is Occupy Food
