Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 6:59AM The Italian Hall disaster (sometimes referred to as the 1913 massacre) is a tragedy which occurred on December 24, 1913 in Calumet, Michigan. Seventy-three men, women, and children, mostly striking mine workers and their families, were crushed to death when someone falsely yelled “fire” at a crowded Christmas party.
What is happening today with wages and negative attitudes toward ‘workers’ is nothing new. BP is pretty good at killing its workers, and the practice of ‘fracking’ to extract natural gas in the backyards of ordinary citizens (to provide ‘clean energy’ for big bucks) is a pretty good way to destroy water supplies and communities, but the practice of harming working people for profit is not new.
Power and money don’t give up power and money without a fight.
I’m not saying get out there and make a fuss, I’m just saying.
