« What the Frack is in My Water? »

They’re fracking again in Texas, Wyoming and Pennsylvania and though they swear it is safe, the process is polluting the drinking water of large numbers of people with things that are not just bad for you— they are POISON.  Benzine, methane, formahldihyde for starters.

There is ample evidence that in spite of industry disclaimers, fracking is permanently contaminating the drinking water of large numbers of people and evidence is mounting that it is the cause of birth defects, sickness and death.  This is another example of big money and corporate interests trampling the rights of the little guy.

If you are late to tha party and haven’t heard about fracking, the basics are in the video below which I found posted on Lynn Hasselberger’s terrific environmental blog, I Count for My Earth

Lynn is always in the forefront with great green posts and this video is a real find.  It explains the process and the dangers in simple terms and gives some frightening facts.

Once you listen,  you won’t be able to get the tune or the message out of your head.

“My Water’s On Fire Tonight” is a product of Studio 20 NYU in collaboration with ProPublica.org. The song is based on ProPublica’s investigation on hydraulic fractured gas drilling.

Music by David Holmes and Andrew Bean
Vocals and Lyrics by David Holmes and Niel Bekker

Since you mentioned Texas and the post is about what is in drinking water I just can't resist to leave a comment on this posts.
I'm living just north of Houston and in our area the drinking water is really clean (as per published test results). Well, in parts of Houston the water is not quite that "clear" - it is contaminated with radio active particles!
Test have shown the amount of radio active particles is much higher than the legal limit. The people living in those areas are adviced to have a certain water filter systems installed which runs about $300. I think it would be the water provider's job to make sure the water is really clean and does not contain anything that might cause serious health problems.

It always seems to be that companies go for the short gain. Maybe one day we will see insect meat take over as a more green option for meat.
